Hi everyone, in your experience, what are the most common mistakes freshers make in their first job? I’d love to learn how to avoid them.

The biggest mistake I see is freshers trying to prove everything at once instead of just asking questions and learning slowly. I did that too in my first job and it just made things harder than they needed to be.

The biggest mistake I’ve seen (and honestly made early on) is staying quiet instead of asking questions, freshers often try to “figure everything out” alone to look smart, but it usually leads to confusion, delays, or wrong work; managers actually prefer someone who asks early, clarifies expectations, and shows they’re willing to learn rather than someone who struggles silently.

The biggest mistake freshers make in their first job is not asking questions or seeking clarity. Trying to appear confident, they stay silent, leading to misunderstandings, errors, slower learning, and missed growth opportunities early on.

While being freshers, people try to show off how good they are rather than acquiring necessary knowledge through experience. They are not ready to ask any questions, listen to criticism and pay too much attention to impressing the colleagues instead of concentrating on the job.

The biggest mistake freshers make in their first job is assuming technical skills alone are enough. Many overlook communication, professionalism, and willingness to learn. Avoiding feedback, hesitating to ask questions, or showing overconfidence can slow growth. Poor time management and lack of initiative also hurt early impressions. Freshers who stay curious, adaptable, and proactive build stronger relationships and progress faster in their careers.
