Can anyone explain “what is floating holiday”? Is it different from regular paid leave? How do companies usually allow employees to use it? Looking for clarity on this.

A floating holiday is a paid day off employees can take at their discretion, rather than on a fixed date, often used for personal events, cultural observances, or flexible scheduling needs.

A floating holiday is a paid day off that employees can choose to take on a date of their preference instead of a fixed company holiday. It allows employees to observe personal events, cultural celebrations, or religious holidays that may not be included in the company’s standard holiday calendar.

A floating holiday, also known as a personal day, is a paid day off given to employees to use at their discretion, rather than on a designated public holiday. Organizations implement floating holidays to allow employees to have an additional day or days off for personal reasons, as well as religious or cultural reasons, outside of defined holidays. Most employees choose the floating holiday date fairly far in advance and have it preapproved by management. Some places have one or two floating holidays per year and they are often to be used in the same calendar year and are not eligible for carryover.

A floating holiday is a paid day off that employees can take at a time of their choice, instead of a fixed public or company holiday. It offers flexibility to celebrate personal, cultural, or religious occasions or for personal needs.
