How do employers check right to work share code?

I’m trying to understand the process to check right to work share code. How do employers verify it, and how long is it valid? Are there any compliance steps involved?

In the UK, employers validate a job seeker through the UK Home Office website service. They provide a code and their date of birth. The employer uses the two details on the GOV.UK ‘View a job applicant’s right to work’ website to validate and retain records.

Employers check a right to work share code by entering the code and the employee’s date of birth on the UK government’s online verification system. This allows the employer to view the person’s immigration status and confirm their legal right to work in United Kingdom.

They just go to the GOV.UK website, enter your share code and date of birth, and it shows them your right to work status instantly, takes like two minutes and they're required to keep a record of it too.
