What is comp time?

I want to know what is comp time and how it works in companies. Is it the same as overtime pay or different? When do employees usually receive comp time?

It's basically extra time off you earn instead of getting paid overtime, so if you work extra hours your employer gives you equivalent time off later, it's more common in government jobs than private sector ones though.

Comp time (compensatory time) is paid time off that employees receive instead of overtime pay for working extra hours. Instead of getting additional wages, the employee can take time off later equal to the extra hours worked. Comp time is commonly used in government or public sector jobs, while private companies may have specific rules depending on labor laws and company policies.

Comp time refers to compensatory time, which is the time off from work offered to workers in exchange for their extra working hours. This entitles them to take an equal amount of time off at a later date instead of earning wages.
