I see "gross wages" on my pay stub but I want to understand exactly what's included in that number. Does it include bonuses, overtime, and allowances? How do gross wages differ from gross salary and net wages?
Gross wages are the total earnings an employee makes before any deductions. They include base salary or hourly pay, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and paid leave. Taxes, insurance, and other deductions are not subtracted yet. It represents the full compensation an employer owes for work performed during a pay period.
Gross wages is everything you earn before any deductions, so that includes your base pay, overtime, bonuses, commissions, paid leave, all of it, basically the full amount your employer owes you for that pay period.
