How many working hours are in a month for a full-time employee?

I'm trying to pin down how many working hours are in a month for our payroll calculations. A 40-hour week gives roughly 160–173 hours, but it shifts with the number of weekdays each month. Is there a standard benchmark payroll teams officially use?

For a full-time employee, it’s usually around 160–173 hours per month, depending on the month and company schedule. Most companies calculate it based on 40 hours per week, so a common average is about 168 hours monthly.

A full-time employee typically works about 160 hours in a month, based on a standard 40-hour workweek multiplied by 4 weeks. However, the actual number can vary slightly depending on the month, holidays, and the exact number of working days. Some months may have 168–176 working hours if there are more weekdays.
