What is accrued leave in companies?

I would like to know how accrued leave works for employees. How is leave accumulated over time, and can employees carry it forward or convert it into cash later?

Accrued leave is paid time off (PTO)—such as vacation, sick, or personal days- that employees earn incrementally over time based on hours worked, tenure, or pay periods. Instead of receiving a full year's allowance at once, this leave "grows" or builds up, ensuring employees earn their benefits progressively.

Accrued leave is paid time off earned gradually by employees over their employment period. Unused leave accumulates according to company policy and can often be used, carried forward, or encashed later.

Accrued leave is paid time off that employees gradually earn over time based on company policy, such as vacation days, sick leave, or personal leave. Instead of receiving all leave upfront, employees accumulate it monthly or per pay period according to their length of service or hours worked. This earned leave can usually be used later, carried forward, or sometimes cashed out depending on employer rules and local labor laws.
