What Is A 147c Letter And When Is It Required? I Heard It Is Related To EIN Verification But I’m Not Sure When It’s Needed. How Can Someone Request It From The IRS? Also, How Long Does It Typically Take To Receive This Letter?

It's just an IRS confirmation letter of your EIN number, usually needed when a bank or vendor asks for proof of your EIN and you've lost the original notice, you just call the IRS and they can fax or mail it to you.

A 147c letter is a verification letter from the IRS that confirms a company's Employer Identification Number (EIN) and other business details, often required for financial or business purposes. It's usually needed when a business is opening a bank account, applying for a loan, or verifying its identity with a third party. To request a 147c letter, you can call the IRS Business and Specialty Tax Line or fax a completed Form 2848 to the IRS, they will then mail the letter to the address on file. The processing time can vary, but it typically takes around 7-10 business days to receive the letter after the request is made.

A 147C letter is an official document issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to confirm a business’s Employer Identification Number (EIN). It is typically required when a company has misplaced or cannot verify its EIN and needs it for tasks like opening a bank account, filing taxes, applying for licenses, or resolving issues with payroll or financial institutions. Businesses request this letter directly from the IRS as a replacement confirmation, not as a new EIN assignment.
